codebase-memory-mcp
A local code-intelligence MCP that turns a repo into a knowledge graph agents can query in under a millisecond.
Why it matters
codebase-memory-mcp is an open-source MCP server written in pure C. It tree-sitter indexes your codebase into a local knowledge graph of functions, classes, calls, routes, and cross-service links, then exposes search and analysis tools to coding agents. One static binary on macOS, Linux, and Windows; optional graph UI; no cloud dependency for the index itself.
Coding agents still burn tokens re-reading files and grepping. This project indexes the tree into a persistent graph, then answers structure questions through MCP with far fewer tool hops. If you run Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar and want the agent to know the codebase instead of rediscovering it every session, this is the layer to try.
How it works
Install the binary (curl installer or release archive), run install so it wires detected agents, restart the agent, then say index this project. The server builds the graph locally and serves MCP tools for search, trace, impact, architecture, and optional Cypher. Agents query structure instead of opening hundreds of files.
Not a hosted RAG wrapper and not another slow language-server bolt-on. Local static binary, tree-sitter graph, sub-ms queries, MCP-native for dozens of agent surfaces, built to cut token burn on real repos.
